The blue bar representing the cold is roughly 75% full. Good time to light a torch!
It's far too cold, you're gonna freeze!

The cold system is a very important but simple part of the game. On the top right there is a gauge that shows the current temperature of the area the player is standing in. If a player or Colonist is in a cold area for a while they will start to take cold damage. when frostbite damage is in effect for the player, blue ice crystals will form around the game window.

Cold damage is not direct health damage but will cause players and Colonists to die very quickly. If a player or Colonist is at 100% HP but the cold meter is 25% filled, then the player essentially has 75% HP, yet the overall value of their HP does not decrease.

The cold bar covers the HP bar, as seen by the blue that fills the HP bar. If the cold bar is full, the player or Colonist will start to take frostbite damage, which slowly drains HP and threatens to kill them.

How to resist the cold

It is very easy to not die from the cold; with the use of Torches and Campfires as well as the Parka helps to quell the cold. Torches and Campfires heat and light up everything in the area, and are able to be carried by the player.

The Parka and Winter Thermals are clothing items you can equip to prevent frostbite. with the Parka costing 1x Hide and 1x Fur, craftable in the player inventory. and the Winter Thermals can be crafted in the Tailor Bench for 5x Feathers and 6x Cloth Rolls.

The best way to keep a large area warm is just to place a Torch every 4-5 spaces, it'll both keep it at a good temperature and provide ample lighting for a short period of time, after you start building power generators you can also build Radiators as a more permanent heat source.

When exploring and a cold storm hits one good method is to build a hole down around 5 blocks and create a small room with a campfire or torch to stave off the cold.
