The first tool obtained by the player is automatically added to the inventory upon making a world and upon respawning. The pickaxe is used to break basic tiles, facilities, plants and furniture. It cannot break higher-tier ores or blocks, you will need the Mining Pickaxe or the Pneumatic Drill instead.
Colonists will require a pickaxe to perform mining tasks.
